The Grid and Clique combo is perhaps one of the most popular healing setups in this post-BC era. In this week's Sprawl's Scrawl, my good friend Revrend has taken the time to explain how he has the addon combination setup for optimal healing.
First start by installing Grid and Clique, then log into your game. Go to your spellbook. You will now see an additional tab. That is Clique. You need to tell Clique what you want it to do with your spells. So as an example of how I have it setup on Revrend. I have told Clique the following:
Left Mouse Button = Flash Heal (Rank 5)
Shift + Left Mouse Button = Prayer Of Mending
Control + Left Mouse Button = Decurse Magic
Middle Mouse Button = Greater Heal (Rank 3)
Shift + Middle Mouse Button = Greater Heal (Rank 7)
Right Mouse Button = Renew (Rank 7)
Shift + Right Mouse Button = Renew (Rank 12)
Control + Right Mouse Button = Abolish Disease.
I use my downranked spells as my everyday castable spells with my mouse clicks and use my shift key + mouse clicks for my highest ranked spells. This way I am not casting my most expensive, mana inefficient spells and have to push the shift key to get my large spells. Keeps me more mana efficient. This is just an example though. You can configure your spell clicking any way you want to. Whatever works for you is best.
Now that you have your spells setup, it is time to setup Grid.
Grid gives you a variety of different window layouts either in a 5 man group, 10 or 25 man raid. When you first start using Grid it can be a little intimidating as it seems like there are 3 billion different options which is good and bad. The easiest way to configure grid is to concentrate on one box instead of all of them. As your not in a group you will only see a box with yourself in it. Any changes you make to that box will be made to the others as they populate with the size of group your in.
So what do you want the box to tell you? That should be the first question and then tweak Grid from there. Again, as an example of how I have Grid setup on Revrend for healing, I have told Grid not to tell me about someone's health unless they are below 90%. So my grid will show everyone as normal until they hit 90% or lower, then I will start paying attention to them as a healer. This keeps me from overhealing which is a bad thing cause it wastes mana and Effective HPS. In the upper left hand corner, I have designated Grid to show me (via the color red) when someone needs to have a magical spell removed. In the upper right hand corner, I have designated Grid to show me (via the color purple) if someone needs a disease removed. To the lower left, I have Grid showing me if the tagret is already having an incoming heal. This is so I dont heal the same person or overheal them. To the lower right, I have Grid showing me if the person has a HoT on them so I dont erase someone else's HoT.
You have to really play around with Grid and not give up on it. Once you configure it to tell you want to know and where you like it to show up, then it really becomes a helpful tool in healing. I can quickly glance at a box in the 25 man configuration and know what I need to do for that person (heal, HoT, decurse, or ignore) and move on. I know these are just suggestions on how it works but you really have to use it to really appreciate all the information it can give you and how fast you can actually process it and move on. |
